CULTURE SHOCK: the feeling of disorientation experienced by someone who is suddenly subjected to an unfamiliar culture, way of life, or set of attitudes.
Hey hello and 안녕하세요!
Welcome to the Culture Shock! journal.
(^—grammatically incorrect on purpose)
This cultural journal is provided by an AWESOME non-profit called the Alabama-Korea Education & Economic Partnership. Or A-KEEP for short.
A-KEEP is an IRS 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission is providing multicultural education and bridging the gaps between Alabama and Korea. In a rural state like Alabama, there are not many opportunities for people to learn about different cultures through education. Typically, by the time you’ve realized a difference between you and another culture, it’s after you’ve made some serious mistake or innocent assumption.
Therefore, as multicultural educators, we want to save you the embarrassment of making those assumptions or mistakes by helping you become familiar with the Korean culture and mitigate the negative effects of culture shock.
